See inside world’s first 3d printed home as homeless man moves in

Those are the words of Tim Shea, who has come a long way since his days as a homeless man once struggling with heroin addiction. He is now the first person ever to live in a 3-D-printed house, according to its maker—a Texas nonprofit called Community First! The village began construction on 500 homes for chronically homeless people back in 2009 and completed their latest version this year.

The 70-year old’s 400 square foot home was created by Austin company ICON which says it printed out more than 1 million pounds worth of plastic structural components using methods from architecture firm New Story Partnerships over three months last fall before assembling them on-site at an estimated cost $10K per unit or less given economies of scale production.
